It was 1900, the turn of the century, and prominent families from Evansville and surrounding counties would travel the Evansville-Vincennes “Traction”, an electric-powered cable car, to a private lake beside Pigeon Creek. Originally a fishing and dining club, The Country Club as it was known, began that year with 101 members. In 1908, vandals destroyed the lake and the members reorganized as “The Evansville Country Club” and decided that golf was the recreation of choice. Soon after, the front nine holes of the golf course were completed. The addition of the back nine in 1927 secured the Club’s position as the premiere recreation and gathering place for golf enthusiasts.
Celebrating its 120-year anniversary in 2020, the Evansville Country Club offers its 700 plus members a legacy of modern luxury with some of the finest golf, dining, swimming, and social activities available in the Tri-State area. The exceptional golf course and amenities have been one of the main attractions for the Championship Round of the Evansville Men’s City Golf Tournament each year which showcases the city’s finest male golfers, since 1930.
Our Commitment To Improvement
In 2007 a state-of-the-art Family Aquatic Center was added that is perfect for summer fun! Home to ECC’s championship swim team, this facility provides a resort-quality swimming pool to our members, several water-play features, family changing and bathhouses and an al fresco dining area that is unique to this entire area! In an effort to maintain a “Vision for the Future”, the Club continues to update and improve the facilities, creating a more modern feel for our up-and-coming members, while still honoring the memories of years past.
The commitment to improvements and excellence coupled with the knowledge and hard work of the entire staff have made the country club a showplace admired not only by its members but by the community at large. In 2022, the Club retained Beau Welling to assess our campus as a whole. With his advisement, the Club embarked on a 7-million-dollar renovation, which included a new practice facility, new tennis and pickleball courts, additional parking, new golf greens, and five completely new holes.
Over 120 years strong, the Evansville Country Club remains a peaceful and quiet refuge where our members and their guests may gather, relax, and find a wonderful place to socialize with old and new friends, family and business associates. It truly has a “Tradition of Excellence with a Vision for the Future”.
